I finally found a chunk of time to sit down and blog! It's been a while...
Talon is one month old as of yesterday! They aren't kidding when they say to enjoy the time because it goes by fast. It's amazing how quickly time passes when your days consist of feeding, holding, changing, burping, and playing with a newborn. Taking care of a baby is hard work! I worry all the time I'm messing him up but am confident I'm doing the best I can. Shit like this passes through my head: Am I reading to him enough? Should I play the classical music more often or louder? Did I bond with him long enough when I fed him last? Did he cry too long while I was getting his diaper changed? Is he hearing my voice well for language development?
Talon is one bad ass baby; just as we predicted. Ha! Seriously, if personality truly is present from birth, this kid is cool and calm. Affectionately named by my stepdad, his face turns into Mr. Magoo when he's upset. We're pretty quick about making sure Magoo doesn't stick around for long! It's pretty impossible to spoil an infant considering they don't understand manipulation yet. When a baby cries, they are communicating with us. As far as we're concerned letting a baby "cry it out" at this point is just cruel. It's like me standing right next to you yelling your name over and over again and you completely ignoring me. Eventually, I stop yelling because I'm tired but it doesn't mean my needs were met. I'm still hungry, I'm still wet, and this huge gas bubble in my stomach is killing me, Motherfucker!
How are the parents holding up? I am doing well! Four weeks since C-section surgery, I'm going for walks to regain my fitness and maintain sanity. My next doctor's appointment with Super Dr. Amy is September 19th so until then nothing but walking and easy aerobic activity. Amy did say I could jog but it just doesn't jive at the moment. I will be returning to my job at Life Time Fitness on October 2nd, officially. My first group fitness class back will be STRIKE! at 9:15am that day. I am so excited! Bring on the pain!
Jason gets a big fancy gold sparkly star for his work as dad and breadwinner. In addition to starting in a brand new position and job description at the same school he's been at for years, he still swings a 10pm-2am baby shift. J-Balls rolls out at 6:30am for work and comes home ready to help take care of his family with a tired smile and boundless enthusiasm.
Jason and I are doing very well. Talon is growing up in a light stress environment. Jason and I eased into good balance and maintain the quality of our connection amidst the demands of the little one who requires most of our attention. Happy marriage = happy baby, right?! Though I am the one mostly home with Talon, Jason kicks me out of the house often enough so I can have some time to myself to exercise or run errands.
Talon has taught me about patience and I get schooled every day. Humbling and amazing experience. Speaking of which, the little bugger is turning back into Magoo...GOTTA GO!!
