I promised I would report most everything here on the blog so I can look back and remember my experience with pregnancy and also not explain 178 times to every person that I talk with what is going on.
Thursdsay, I had a doctor's appointment with my fantabulous doctor, Amy Johnson. She found blood and protein in my urine. This pretty much ruined my day for me. So back up a bit, last summer I had a blood/urine test for a new life insurance policy we set up. Jason's results came back fine. My results, after a test and re-test, mine came back with abnormal levels. The reasons why were unclear to me however the Internet research I did said it could have been from high intensity exercise (I was lifting really heavy and working extra hard in classes). Needless to say, I didn't go to my primary care physician when I should have.
Dr. Amy joked that she didn't want to hear how long I knew about it. She said I had it when I was in my first tri but didn't think much because that is common for first tri. I am not in the first tri anymore! I felt awful and completely irresponsible. It is funny: we seem to not care about ourselves as much as someone else sometimes. As soon as I get pregnant, I am more worried about how this is affecting my baby than myself.
The plan now is I am going next Thursday and Friday to get a ultrasound on my kidneys to see if possibly I have a kidney stone or something. Then to the urologist to determine the results. I feel better knowing we will know what is going on but stupid because I should have done this months ago. At the time I didn't get around to it because I never had any pain and well, I never got around to it. Dr. Amy didn't seem terribly concerned. I trust her style and she will always be forthcoming in what she thinks is really going on. If I do have a kidney stone, they are surprised I haven't had any pain but there's nothing they can do right now because I am pregnant.
I will update you this week with the results!

You are so right! We don't take care of ourselves they way we should until you get into the mindset of how it might impact someone else. Right now, trying to get my body ready for when we start trying. All of a sudden I am taking my vitamins, watching what I eat and trying to exercise.
ReplyDeleteTake the vibe from Dr. Amy - she sounds like a fantastic doctor!
